Instrument Transformers are generally used in AC System devices used to change currents and voltages from one magnitude to another or to isolate the utilization current or voltage from the supply voltage for safety of the operator and the electrical equipment in use.
The Main Purpose of Voltage Transformer is to transform voltage from a high value to a Low value for easy & safe handling of relays and measuring instruments.
A Voltage Transformer consists of primary and secondary windings arranged on a suitable silicon-steel laminated core. The windings are insulated according to design by unbleached Kraft paper. The windings along with the paper insulation are dried impregnated and filled with transformer oil by using a special vacuum and drying process. The impregnated active part is assembled in a tank, Porcelain insulator and is sealed from the atmosphere. Secondary leads are brought out through sealed insulated terminals into a terminal box situated on Bottom tank for facilitating external connections.
The Voltage Transformer consists of Top & Bottom Tank Assembly, Secondary Terminal Box assembly. Porcelain insulator is fixed between the Top and Bottom Tanks. The Top Tank is provided with Pressure Relief Device, Nitrogen Filling Valve or SS bellow, Oil Level Indicator and Primary Terminals.
The Voltage Transformers after proper drying is filled with Transformer oil under vacuum and is hermetically sealed. The space left for expansion on the top is filled with dry nitrogen through a non-returnable valve at pre-determined pressure or provided SS bellow to take core of oil volumetric expansion due to temperature variations.

A Current Transformer consists of primary and secondary windings arranged on a suitable appropriate silicon-steel toroidal wound core. The windings are insulated according to design by unbleached Kraft paper. The impregnated active part is assembled in a tank and porcelain insulator which is hermetically sealed from the atmosphere. Secondary leads are brought out through sealed insulated terminals into a terminal box located at the bottom for facilitating external connections.
